With the help of the book Little Seagull, I was able to correct all citations within my essays to follow the proper guidelines, depending on what types of sources I used. This helped with my works cited page as well as in-text citations. Using the book for the works cited page, I had learned about the different variety of formats needed for all different sources. While in class, we reviewed some other key points of MLA formatting. Within my writing I would need to cite any information I got from another article, even without directly quoting it. One thing I learned in class was that if I had mentioned the author in the same sentence as my paraphrasing or quote, I would not need to include it within an in-text citation. Also, there are different things to include within the in-text citations and works cited. I learned that if it was a TED Talk or video, you put the timestamp within the in-text citation. If you are including a page number from an article printed offline, you need to use the actual page number of the actual article; this can be done by downloading the article as a PDF to keep the proper page numbers. These are all guidelines that come from MLA to correctly cite and avoid plagiarism that I was able to follow from Little Seagull and the class discussions. Here is an example of my in-text citations from my Big Data essay, (Roski et al. 1116) (Kaplan 317) (Greenfield 6:50). Below is an example of an MLA citation from my Big Data essay as well as an in-text citation I used:
